In the past month or so he started doing weird things with his eyes. First it was bulging them out every few seconds, now it’s blinking. Every few seconds he blinks. It seems to be getting worse and more obvious. He’s totally normal in every other way but has been moody and unhappy in school lately. Should I take him to the doctor or just ignore it?

How are you dealing with his unhappiness at school? The tics are probably a manifestation of that, and you need to treat it by tackling the underlying issue. The doctor won't do much...

My 8 year old son does this. He's been doing it for a few years now on and off. The off can be a few months at a time. I ignore it, but I don't know if that's the right thing.

You should consult with Dr. Susie Schulman - she specializes in this

I would test for strep but if it's negative, most tics are outgrown. However, you said he is unhappy so it would seem that might be contributing to the tics. Do some detective work.

Following...
My 7 yr old dd has this. On and off, and it keeps changing. Clearing her throat, taking deep breath and blowing out in a funny way, now she's scrunching her nose...
I read up a little and found that you basically wait it out. Maybe the Bach remedy is worth a try.

Just be aware stimulant drugs for adhd can aggravate tics.

Firstly rule out anything with the eyes, have you seen an eye doctor recently... next step would be rule out any strep or pandas and ask pediatrician what he feels

Hi my son had this clearing throat and blinking business . It was pandas ! Don’t let it go by ! Neglected strep can turn into something nasty.
It can affect the heart . You should do blood work , the strep might not come up positive in a culture .
We treated it with antibiotics.
