If your child had hand foot and mouth disease, how long did you keep them home? How long did doc say was contagious for?
I asked my doc but wanna hear other responses...
Thanks

Oy, refuah shelaima. We've gone through it so many times, unfortunately. My kids were always knocked out for a while with it. I definitely didn't send them back to school until the fever was completely gone, which was at minimum a few days. But the mouth sores was really the killer for them, and that took a while to get over. Probably longer than the fever. I've had kids home for a week with HFM.

Highly contagious until all the sores are healed. Please don't wait until just the fever breaks... Or you risk infecting the whole class. Ok, some contagiousness exists before the sores even show up. But why put others at risk once you know they are infected???

"Healed sores" includes sores in the mouth and throat, btw.
My son was home 10 days.
