As challahchallah, I take my challah very seriously! At the last minute, it turns out I'll be in NYC for this shabbos. Where should I go for the best challah? I may even get from two different bakeries to compare if there's a close call.

Yes, I'm assuming I'll need to go into Brooklyn. Which of those do you think is the best? Are they different styles?

They are similar A Heimish challa. Sort of a combo between egg and water challa.
Strauss has the old fashioned sweet egg challa
For water challa I found that korn’s is very good Just remember that the bakeries will be packed this week so try to go early.

There are quite a lot of bakeries and you will likely find just as many opinions. Enjoy

What style do you enjoy most? I really like the challah at ostrovitsky in Flatbush.

I buy their frozen challah dough and bake on Friday. It’s delicious.

Yup, I know there are probably just as many opinions as bakeries, but I have no idea how to narrow it down and I need to pick something. Or maybe two different styles from two different places. When you say get there early, what does that mean exactly?

Thank you!

Early= 10ish
If you want to narrow it down- then go to sesame for heimish and one of the other choices mentioned here. For bourekas you go to Tzion on 13th ave and 38th street in BP.
Maybe Flatbush mothers can recommend an Israeli store.
You could always try the kollel and gourmet they are right near Tzion and have selections
I like the six grain that Strauss bakes.

Ok great, so let's say I'll go to sesame in BP and Tzion for bourekas. What's the best different style challah near those? Thanks for the help everyone--I'm getting excited!

Thank you all, especially sub, for helping me figure this all out! I'm now back with lots of baked goods (including 3 loaves of challah) that I can't wait to try. Shabbat shalom!
