My son will be at 36th st and 11th Ave in NYC, and he has to get to Flatbush.

He's wondering if he should research how to take the train (which he's never done and he doesn't have a Metrocard) or how much a taxi would cost?

Thanks!

a train would be cost effective ... he can buy a metrocard for $1 plus fare by machines at most stops

try walking to 34th street Hudson Yards for 7 & change at Times Square for Q train

Just looked at Uber - looks like 50/60 dollars at the very least

It depends on traffic, but a taxi won't be cheap - minimum $40, and could be $60+ if traffic is really bad. A train is much cheaper if he's up to it, though warn him that he may not have reception below ground if he needs to call you or has questions. He can always get out at a stop and ask a policeman or MTA employee for assistance without having to pay again (as long he doesn't exit the turnstile).

Thank you! He's 18 and very capable, but we live in Baltimore, so he's never taken a train before! I'll tell him to try, if not get a taxi.

It could be cheaper or faster to take the train, but you can also get lost. 18 yr old is adult, so if he gets lost he can ask for help and figure something out.
