How about the spray-on type?

Ask if the spray on is ok, but it does leave a mark if sprayed on clothing.
How old is the child? If it's a young child, maybe he may apply it himself.

Ask a rov, but I second the spray idea. Just do it with child only in undergarments & wait a few minutes b4 putting on clothes.

It’s a toddler.
Don’t the sprays have ton of other chemicals though?
Ugh, doing this to prevent cancer bec child is immunosuppressed. Not looking to add a ton more toxins...

Do you use mineral sunscreen? Fewer chemicals I think.

When I was living somewhere that had a zika outbreak, I was told I can dab mosquito repellent on the kids on shabbos, instead of rubbing it in. I'm guessing there's a similar heter for you, so it's worth asking. I personally avoid sprays for health reasons and there are studies supporting that.

I remember back in high school leaning that some ppl put diaper cream in the diaper instead of rubbing it on the baby... Same for like Neosporin.. Put on bandaid instead of skin... Maybe something similar can be done with sunscreen.

OP, a toddler might do a good job smearing it on himself. You should really aska Rav about this, you might get a heter to apply.
Is this a new issue? What do u do every shabbos?

It’s a fairly new med & were generally home bound. Will go out on y’t though iyh.
This toddler though would not be capable of smearing on.
Ok, got my work cutout, find a kfp & non-oily, most natural sunscreen...
Thanks everyone!
If you have any specific recommendations that fit above criteria, I’d love to hear.
Thank you!

DD2 has a history of mole issues and is not allowed to go out without spf. I got a heter to use a loose powder spf. I am not paskening for you but telling you that it exists so you can ask your rav.
There is a loose powder sunscreen that you can get at sephora that comes already loaded on the brush. Here is one of several brands that they carry.
https://www.sephora.com/produc.....aw.ds
Costco has at least one brand too, and it costs about half of what Sephora does, but only online.
FYI this has a very slight skin toned pigment, but it doesn't really show once on.

Yes it does. Also it is extremely easy to reapply. It's a soft, fluffy brush and takes a second. It''s not very big so you can take it with you. I think it's spf 30.

She reapplies every 2 hours that she''s out. In other words, she wouldn't reapply if she has a short walk to shul, davens for 3 hours and walks home, but would if she goes to the park with her niece and is outside for a sustained period of time.

Ask a Rov. We were told roll-on is fine (as well as the spray) and that even for an adult a shinuy could be used. After all it’s for health.
