So no, it’s not all advisable. Maybe in the olden days, when the streets and parks weren’t littered with all sorts of metal and plastic and glass, it was good for kids. But now it’s not. (This actually happened in the bungalow colony but it makes no difference, people think it’s ok to throw their trash on the ground.) |
I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

With my young children in the park on Shabbos, I watched from a distance in horror as an older boy, maybe 12, was bullying both verbally and physically several younger boys (maybe 8 or 9 years old). Not being extremely violent, but grabbing an arm what was clearly way to tight, pushing, etc. The younger boys were all timid and trying to do whatever the bully said. I was not in a position with my own children that I could go over and intervene, but no one else at this busy park went over to intervene either! I’m sure their parents sent them out to play with their friends thinking they know how to be safe and there are so many people around so what could go wrong ... but no one stopped that situation that was happening right in the open. Makes me never want to let my kids go out without at least being somewhere I can check on them, if not to not let them out of my sight at all. This is in a chareidi neighborhood in Jerusalem.
