Meatballs
2 pounds ground meat
1/2 cup bread crumbs
2 large eggs
3 Tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
salt
ground black pepper
1 medium onion, diced (optional)
Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, eggs, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, ground black pepper, and onion if using, in a large bowl Set aside
Sweet and Sour Sauce
1 (16 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup water
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
juice from 2 lemons or 1/4 cup of lemon juice
1/4 cup ketchup
1 medium onion, diced (optional)
Prepare sauce. Combine tomato sauce, water, sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, ketchup, and onion in a large pot. Mix well and bring to a boil.
Roll meat mixture into balls. Drop into boiling sauce. Simmer, covered on a low flame until cooked through and infused with flavor, about 2 hours.
