We own an sd450, our second one actually, one was lost/stolen, then we got my dd a710is, which is a lot bulkier, but just as good. Now my dh got himself a sd870is, which is the best on the market, for today. Tomorrow is another day. LOL

You can get a top top consumer camera from canon for $269 at buydig.com. The canon S3 IS takes amazing pictures and videos ,it's a steal at this price. Check out the reviews at amazon you'll love it.

My husband sells cameras, he said that the best camera today is:

For the small compact one = SD870 which goes for about $320

And for the bigger style cameras the best one on the market is the = G9 which goes for $450

And another great camera is the = SX1000 and it goes for approx $239

He also saw the devoloping and its pretty phenomanel. (spelling)

thank you all for your replies.

to amother who's husband sells cameras, I see by canon that the A.... are bigger and cheaper and the SD.... are smaller, is that the only reason the SD... are more expensive? you see if the quality is the same I might as well by a A.... cause they are cheaper and I do not care that it is bulky/bigger. hope to hear back from you.

The a cameras use aa batteries so you don't have to worry about being without batteries. Canon told me that is why they are bulkier-to hold the batteries. The sd cameras only use a special battery (I don't remember what kind, but they are not the kind you have in your house). If you go to the canon website, you can do a compare between the different cameras to see all the differences/similarities.

the sd-series use a lithium ion battery, which comes standard with the camera.

and the image quality is not the same. even if 2 camera have the same # of megapixels, one can have far better quality than the other.

I highly recommend the canon sd-series. my 3.2 megapixel sd200 shot better pictures than my friends' 5 mp cameras.

the sd870 is great and it also has image stabilization, which the a-series do not have. and btw, the a-series is probably a slower camera, too. I don't know 100% for sure, but most of the cheaper cameras are. it gets annoying when you have to wait just to take the picture.

my husband has worked with cameras for close to 10 years, and wouldn't recommend the canon a-series.

Chaya, the A canon camera is actually better than the sd because it has a better zoom and the only reason why the sd are more expensive because it is much more compact.

The A750IS is probably the best camera for its price.
The price for that is $195.95.

OK. I just spoke to DH (he also works in cameras.)
He said that the A570IS is a better camera for the price than the SD's.
The Differences:

SD
- more compact
- made of metal frame ("prettier")
- uses rechargeable lithium.... battery
- less zoom

A570
- bulkier
- made of plastic material
- uses "AA" batteries
- can go double the zoom

He said for s/o who interested in starting out to learn to use a camera properly, but doesn't want to go for a major expense yet, would get the A570.

about the a570, does it have image stabilization?
I hear its plastic material (not metal) does that mean it gets broken/harmed faster if it falls?

My husband is not home now , but I can tell you for sure that if an sd camera falls on a floor it usually gets damaged somehow.

I know 2 friends who have the A570. They both said the same thing - it's a great camera but takes a very long time to snap, so when your taking pictures of kids it's very hard to get a fast shot. It also takes a long time between shots.Otherwise it's great and a great price too- amazon has it for 149.99.
