Has anyone tried a big wood project, maybe they've found online and it actually worked?
I don't want a 5$ kit, but something that I can buy the pieces in home depot and let my boys, hammer and saw over a few days of summer vacation.
Something that they can follow the steps by themselves.

My son has been attending shop class since age 5. He goes twice a week. I prefer it this way because he is supervised by a teacher making sure there is nothing dangerous going on. My son has learned to uses a hand saw, planes, sanders, nails, glue, a hammer, etc. and learned how to be responsible doing so. I would recommend seeing if there is a shop class in your area.
