I'm looking to download ebooks for children (reading level grade 1-6), and I know there are resources online (such as Project Gutenberg) with ebooks where the copyright expired. So- does anyone have suggestions of good books that would be free to download (because the copyright expired, or for other reasons)?

Thank you!

Probably Heidi, Daddy Long Legs, Dandelion Cottage, Five Little Peppers and How They Grew(those are all book titles, btw).
I would imagine anything by Louisa May Alcott. Probably Mark Twain.

The Oz series by L. Frank Baum — there are 14 of them!

Raggedy Ann series by Johnny Gruelle.

The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

Through my public library, ebooks (including lots of children ebooks) can be checked out and downloaded to a smart phone, tablet, ereader... etc. have you looked into that as an option?

Yes, I plan on doing that too. I'm just also exploring the "free and can keep forever" options.
