Did you marry rich? Did his parents encourage him to study? Did he get a degree before marriage? Or do you expect him to have syate dishmaye at business?

I'm wondering because in my circles people send their boys to yeshiva till a year after marriage and then they have no marketable skills. I'm so confused because most people have many children and yet seem to manage.

It can, depending on the degree and what you decide to do with it.

You don't need a degree to do well, but you need a reasonable plan. Both me and dh grew up in circles where going to college is expected, but for various reasons, dh never finished his degree. However, he was still able to land a really good (as in, six figure salary) job and has been able to work his way up, so he does well. Meanwhile, I have a masters degree, and make about a third of what he makes. Dh is just in a higher paying field, and has skills that I will never have unless I retrain. Also, he's much farther along in his career than I am because he hasn't taken significant amounts of time off/scaled back hours because of kids, whereas I have.

I don’t. I’ve worked full time almost continuously since finishing college (except for a few blessedly short episodes of unemployment) and have always made more than dh. TBH I never envisioned myself as the primary breadwinner but that’s how it turned out. Married over 30 years.

He worked full time and went to school at night. His starting salary in tri-state area was 70k but we both hope and it is reasonable to expect him to make 250k eventually.

He worked, learned, and went to school during our first year of marriage. Then he started grad school and focused on that. I was the sole breadwinner for four years and we lived off my savings.

In what field can you make 170k and not have a degree? Is it real estate? Selling insurance? Just curious.

It's a real estate related field. Honestly most of my family doesn't have a degree and all do really well. (I am speaking about making over 500k a year)

Not always. And people without degrees can also do very well.
