I have a formica counter. The crock pot sitting on it all Shabbos makes the counter underneath feel very warm. I was wondering if there is something I can put underneath the crock pot like foil or a metal tray to prevent the heat under the crock pot from melting the counter. Or will foil or a tray under a crock pot radiate even more heat and melt the counter?

A floor or wall tile that's the right size for the crockpot to rest on it and be stable.

I use a ceramic trivet under my crockpot, on my formica counter. Like this:

You could use a wooden cutting board.

We use this under our hot plate on Pesach since our counters are lined with corrugated plastic for Y"T. The top part where the appliance sits on is metal, and the bottom part that sits on the counter is not, so it protects the counter (or pesach counter liner) from hot metals.
