I don't know but I've seen it spelled in English Mariashi.
It's a pretty name.

My middle name is “Mariasha”, it’s after my great-grandmothers favorite sister who was killed by the Nazis.
I was made fun of my whooooooole childhood because it’s a very unusual name. It’s not Chabad, I’m pretty sure it’s a Yiddish derivative of Russian (where my grandparents were from).
If you’re not super hardcore Chassidish or something please don’t use it. Kids are mean.

I had a girl in my class whose name was Maryasha. None of us had ever heard of the name before she joined our class at some point in high school.
We didn’t make fun of her name but we did find it interesting that her last name (also unique) began with the letter M and she was originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota .
I wonder what happened to her... this thread is bringing back memories...
Not sure if I would use this name for my child...

I'm pretty sure that Maryasha was the Chofetz Chaim's mother.

I think it’s a variation of Miriam, likely Russian origin.

Maryasha is a very common name in Chabad because of Bubbe Maryasha Garelik who was the matriach of an enormous Chabad family and an incredible woman (google her, fascinating story). I know quite a few Maryashas and none have been made fun of in school because it's common. If you're not Chabad and no one uses that name, it's likely that she'll be made fun of.

If you're not naming after someone, I wouldn't use the name. I feel the same about names like yentel and gnendel and michla (I know ppl with these names btw) and I say that as someone in a family and community with tons of Yiddish names.

I think the Chofetz Chaim's mother's name was Dobrusha.

Maryasha is an anti Chabad name because I know someone Litvish.
Maryasha is a YIDDISH name.
A name isn't a haskafa.

It’s always so interesting to me how cultural names are. Many of the names that are considered common and beautiful on this forum would be considered strange in my dati leumi world - same as Maryashie. Bayla and Maryashie would be just as unusual in my world.
But I guess Meital or Liron would sound weird for most of the posters here.
