My son has severe canker sores on his inner lower lip that are continuously recurring for about 3 months now. They are not herpes or cold sores. It is in one specific area.
The pediatrician is not being helpful. He just recommends advil.
The dentist says get bloodwork for autoimmune diseases. The pediatrician thinks that is ludicrous
Has anyone seen this? Any advice?

My big daughter had this for years and there was nothing much to do for her. She’s bh healthy. Someone suggested lysine. Her dentist asked if she’s a type A personality- seems maybe stress can cause it in some people. Hatzlochah

We all get a lot of canker sores. Things that trigger them for our family are sugar substitutes and Crest toothpaste.

My DD had it for years. Inside and outside the lips. Best thing was L-lysine supplement and coconut oil applied topically. We had already tried rinsing with salt water, mixing benadryl with maalox and who knows what else. These worked very well.

Sensodyne toothpaste does not contain the ingredient which encourages canker sores. Once I started using Sensodyne, if had far fewer canker sores. I put anbesol (sp?) on those I do get and they usually go away quickly.

L-lysine is an essential amino acid. It's a supplement you can buy in your pharmacy or health store, and it's not expensive at all. It comes in capsules and powder form.

It works amazingly well on all kinds of canker sores, herpes sores, and shingles. If taken daily, it will prevent outbreaks. If you have a sudden outbreak, just double the dose for a few days. The sores will only last for a day or two, instead of for weeks at a time. They'll also be smaller and less painful.

I'm not really into natural remedies but people say rinse the mouth with raw goat milk and if goes away within 24 hours. My husband has a farm and people call him all the time for it. He tells everyone to let him know if it works and I think he said he's at 97% success after one time.

Last year a high school girl came after suffering for 2 years with recurring sores, one treatment and they were gone, did not come back, as per the parents.

We personally have never tried it.

I used to get them when stressed. To relieve pain & heal I would dip tip of q-tip into liquor & apply. The alcohol sort of burns it/cleans it & numbs the pain.

some autoimmune diseases come with mouth sores that's why you are being advised to check it out

I get them due to an autoimmune disorder. When I practice good self care (sleeping well, eating healthy, not getting stressed, live in mold free environement) I get them less and they go away sooner and are less painful

I had cankers on my tongue for years. Painful , deep holes, really. I went to dr/dentist/dental specialist. Noone knew what it was. After I went low carb, they resolved and have not come back. My blood sugar was only prediabetic at that point, but I suspect that my blood sugar swinging around was causing healing to be inhibited.

If you take her off heavier carbs and they heal up, you’ll know you should be pursuing blood glucose checks with your paediatrician. When I say heavy carbs I mean processed foods. No one is saying she should not eat any- although if they are that painful, it might resolve more quickly if you go more tight. Before I get bashed, this post is directly relevant to ops post. It’s my experience with a horrible, painful condition. Which thank goodnes’s has gone away and not returned for two years.

Lysine has worked for people in our family too. You can take a pill, or apply the powder directly to the canker sore, or both. Eggs have a lot of lysine, so if your son doesn't like pills, maybe you can up his egg intake.

For immediate relief while eating, we use something called Canker-X which is available otc at the pharmacy. It's not a numbing cream like anbesol. You put it on and let it dry for a minute, and it forms a film over the canker sore. It's not a permanent solution, but lets you eat without wincing, for a little while at least.

L-lysine is an amino acid from health food store. Canker sores is a virus. The lysine will kill the virus in no time.
Ask for capsules, twist open, spill into juice. Have the child drink with a straw so he doesnt feel powder taste.

I get it when I’m lacking sleep or stressed and poor eating (sugar and carbs).

My daughter gets them as well. My dentist said lack of a certain vitamin - literally can't remember which one, but she now takes a multi vitamin every day and it seems to help. Dentist also said to make sure and get a new toothbrush when they go away. She has BH only had one every once in a while since then!!

Does your son bite his nails? I'm dealing with something similar and wondering if there's a correlation.
