We will be driving cross country through the 70 this July.
Does anyone have good day trips on that line through Kansas or Missouri.
Something kid friendly. It can be outdoors, like a state park.
I'm looking for something unique that other states don't have.

I don't know that area terribly well but I have been to St. Louis a few times and one thing you can do there that you definitely can't do elsewhere is go inside the Gateway arch. It's a fun little ride.

When I was in St. Louis like 15+ years ago, the zoo and science museum were free. There are also some pretty botanical gardens.

We used to live in Kansas & have been back through that way a couple times over the past few years. Each time the kids lobby my husband and try to get him to detour and go there. "Giant ball of twine! Giant ball of twine!" And each time he refuses. LOL. Is it worth it? Wink

Why is the twine so exciting?
Also, how far is it off the 70?

Dan Gutman has a series about twins named Coke and Pepsi whose parents take them on a cross-country trip; the mother writes about offbeat tourist places.

The City Museum is hands-down one of the coolest things you can do with your kids anywhere! Our kids love it so much that we've been there 3 times, working a few hours in St. Louis into various itineraries just to be able to go again - it's that amazing! And it's just a few minutes off of I-70. Once in the area, going up the Gateway Arch is also really cool.

Somewhere along I-70 is Mark Twain's childhood home, along with Tom Sawyer's fence, which was nice for a short leg stretch. In Kansas City, you've got Legoland, the best WW1 Museum in the US, and the College Basketball Hall of Fame with a bunch of courts and skills games for kids to play. A couple hours west of Kansas City is the Wizard of Oz Museum and also the Eisenhower Presidential Library, both really close to the highway.

I just remembered.. about half an hour into Illinois is Cahokia mounds. It's hilly so walking is expected but it's huge grounds of old native American Indian metropolitan

Absolutely it is worth it, if only you can say you’ve been there LOL. If you can get there for the twine-o-thon, that’s really a sight to be seen.

The Magic House in Stl is an amazing children's hands on museum, and it's often rated among the top children's attractions in the USA.

I don't believe so. Years ago there used to be a kosher Subway there, but sadly, it's gone.

Here's the list of places under supervision of the local vaad, but I know some locals who don't eat from at least some of these places, so don't just take it at face value and assume it's all 100% fine without asking any questions first:

The Magic House is a great visit especially for very young children. The City Museum is better if your kids are a little older.

There's also the Anheuser Busch Factory tour, which includes seeing the Clydesdales. There's soft drinks or beer at the end of the tour.

But the most uniquely St. Louis attraction is definitely the Arch.
