My accountant was unable to help me out with this. He doesn't even think it can be included as an expense. It comes out to a ton of money for me so its really upsetting. Does anyone have experience with this?

Yes, receipts for proof. Credit card charges can work if there is a good description from the vendor. There are limitations to claiming the expense. I’m an accountant.

They don't take cc's, but will try for receipts.
Thanks! What are the limitations?

I'm not an accountant, but I believe only people file with a 1099 are able to expense transportation . Usually that's a business owner or independent consultant type of thing. But I could be wrong.

That is not deductible. Your CPA should know that if he is doing your 1040.

Transportation to and from your regular workplace is considered commuting costs and not deductible for tax purposes. Your accountant is correct, but should have explained it to you more clearly.

You cannot deduct taxis to and from home to work. You can deduct if say, you have a work meeting somewhere that you need to take a cab to from your regular place of work.

Edit: Apparently the latter has also been changed. Bottom line it's not tax deductible.

Asking gently, why would you think that would be tax deductible?

Tax reform quashed that too.

OP - if you are cabbing to work because you live in a community that doesn't offer public transportation that meets your needs, and you have this job to help support your family - and driving is not permitted to you - I would seek financial reimbursement elsewhere.

Seems like you're the only lucky one here! Do you have any more info on this? Like which tax code/law (I don't know the correct terminology) this is?

Whew! You sound mad at someone. Owning a car is way more expensive for me.
Where can I get reimbursement? What is the 'elsewhere' you're suggesting?
