Nope. If you are are racist, you are racist. Nothing to do with the hair style.

There are people who are more racist toward people with ethnic hairstyles.

No. Your opinion is grossly misinformed. When black people dress in line with white standards of "professional" or "appropriate" presentation, this impacts their treatment by society. By avoiding "black" hairstyles, jewelry, clothing, etc, black people are able to signify to white people that they are "safe" and not like the "dangerous" blacks who wear culturally specific styles. Please read some of the articles posted above and educate yourself.

Please address what right you have to call yourself a gypsy? You do know that some find that word offensive?

Your username is fat-shaming and I for one will not tolerate such bigotry.

Is it? I recently got them and someone that I showed them to told me that it is. And that it’s offensive. I’m keeping them anyway because I like them and I think I look cute. But I’m just curious to hear others opinions. Thanks.

I'm actually surprised that it's considered an issue. Recently on a few competition shoes on TV the contestants both white and black and in between were styled with corn rows. It actually looked like a fashionable trend. I actually thought it was a positive thing. Embracing another culture and trying to emulate their different styles. I guess I live in a different world.

G*psy is a racist term, not a cool business name, instagram account, or self-descriptor.

I googled "is squishy offensive ?" I came up with a great big nothing.

I googled "is gypsy offensive?" And did I get lots of responses.

This is one:
https://maineethics.com/mainem.....gypsy

Now that you have been properly schooled, change your offensive racist SN.

BTW, besides telling me that I look worse than a transvestite, you are saying I am a bigot because I label myself squishy?

As offensive as that might be (and that is offensive!!!) it has nothing to do with the cornrows.

I disagree with you.

Sure there are people who are racist to the core who are fearful of all black teenagers. But there is a nice subset of people who are only fearful of teens who, based on how they have chosen to dress, or wear their hair, are perceived to be dangerous.

WHOOSH that was the sound of the joke flying over your head.
Are conservatives allowed to have a sense of humour I wonder?

To the poster with the racist name,

Calling someone fat is not racist. And squishy doesn't mean fat.

Just helping you out here.

And liberals are hypocrites. Your very identity on this site is racist.

But that seems to go right over your head. You don't even know what the word racist means. Fat is not a race. And that's sad.

It sounds like you're not taking the racism of your username seriously enough.

You can invoke it now for all care. You are a control freak liberal. Now it's your turn. I really despise mind control games you people play.

It's the hypocrisy that gets me. I love celebrating rich and varied cultures. If you knew studies of these transvestites and gay guys, you would know the source of their exaggerated feminine gestures. And it's not because they admire women. I don't want men in ladies bathrooms nor housed in female prisons.

I see you took out your insult that transvestites look better than me. So in your liberal arrogance you can make fun of someone's looks. Nice. Really, nice.

BTW, how dare you appropriate gypsy culture in your SN?

I will continue to cook in my tangine and wok and make soul food when the mood hits me. I will wear my alpaca from Peru, my Indian beads from the reservation, my emerald from Columbian, and my cable knit sweater from Ireland.

And if I looked as cute as mommy2b2c, I would get cornrows also.

So confused. Do you mean transgender? Why are we discussing transvestites in this thread? I feel so lost.

Ok I'll bite. One of the dictionary definitions of the word "gypsy" is "one who follows an itinerant or otherwise unconventional way of life." However, if an actual Romani messages me on this forum telling me they are offended by my username, I will gladly change it.

Really??
As opposed to without cornrows?
But even with?

The closest I got to cornrows was crimping a friend's hair. (I didn't need it Cool .) She slept in the braids overnight, then brushed out her hair.
But I would avoid it and yes, I could see it being offensive (at worst. Ludicrous at better) and I can't argue the logic but it's something I sense.

I was just about to say, "Cue white people saying that's not true" and you were faster wow

People who would cross the street when they see black teens wearing cornrows would not do the same if those same black teens were wearing clean-cut or flat ironed styles.

I can honestly say, not me. I would have no reason to believe that they're not good kids. If there were vibes that got me nervous, I'd cross the street. The cornrows would be irrelevant.

There are people who feel/have been taught/know/read/believe that cornrows are associated with gang culture. Gangs are scary.
