Hi all!
My 12 yr old daughter attending sleepaway camp maarava for first time.
Aside for very typical things needed in camp and on camp packing list, please educate me about general trends that kids are into these days and especially anything exclusive to maarava in particular.

For example: I’ve heard about butter sweatshirts, slides etc. what can you tell me about linen? Bathing suits ?

Please tell me more.

Also, what kind of closet space or shelves provided in this camp.
Are containers neccessary?

Note: without judgement, it is extremely important for this child to fit in and make it socially, hence my interest.

Would you feel comfortable asking the camp director?

I could but think mothers of children going may know as well. This is my youngest child and I’m simply not knowledgeable about “the scene” as I used to be when my older daughters went to camp

Maarava is pretty out of towny so you won’t have that much of an issue with “cool clothing”.
You can get butter sweatshirts in century for really cheap.
They sell slides all over also for really inexpensive. Try old navy or even the children’s place.
Probably get a pair of natives too.

Have her bring one fun thing to either have on her bed (photo throw, emoji or furry pillow), or to put up near her bed like some pictures or a collage.

And then one fun thing that she can share one day like glow sticks or a make your own slime kit or whatever she finds fun or exciting.

One fun dress up like a tutu skirt.

2 pr sneakers (not expensive)
1 Natives for lounge, rain, muddy activities
1 Adidas slides for shower & pool
1 shabbos shoes

She'll be fine! She doesn't need these things, and not everybody will have them, but if she needs to fit in socially and feel like she has things too, this is probably what you're looking for.

[quote] Maarava is pretty out of towny [\quote]

Sorry, I disagree with this. Marava might be geographically not in the New York area, but I believe that much of its clientele is from NY and Lakewood. In addition, the Chicago crowd is not so “out of towny.” Not having any teenage girls myself, I can tell you what my friends girls have been telling me that is needed for camp this year— again, this is not specific to Maarava, but I’m guessing that based on the crowd, it’s going to be similar to the NY camps....
Natives
Junee t shirts (or other T-shirt’s that don’t need a shell underneath)
Linen sets (get a cheap one from TJ maxx for $15-$20)
Natives

You might want to start a new thread “what are some status items my teenage girl should bring to camp this summer?”

Hatzlacha ! I hope your daughter has a great time!
