So it’s a major struggle of mine.

My husband is super tidy and I am not- it bothers me more than it bothers him. He is very good about it and tidies when he can, but I want to be tidy like him too!!
I don’t want to live in a museum and I want my kids to be allowed to be kids, make a mess and have fun, but following that I want to have the urge to tidy, sort things out and generally keep things straight, but I just don’t have it! When it gets to the point that it’s making me ‘itch’ I get it done, but then it’s just a boring chore.

It’s the general daily clearing, piles of papers, sorting out stuff etc that I just can’t get to do without the pressure of a visitor or Shabbos coming.

What strategies can I implement to slowly help me get to that constant tidy state? We don’t live in a big house so there isn’t much storage space but we make do and try to Chuck what isn’t in regular use. It’s the day to day stuff I struggle with most.

Which day to day stuff are an issue?
An organizer can come in and set up a system for you and make it easy to maintain.
Or post specifics here and we'll try to help you.

That's overwhelming!
My general rule, and a great habit to start, is if it takes less than 3 minutes, do it now.
Another rule- wash dishes as they hit the sink, so you dont have to deal with stuck on gunk later.

I would very highly recommend you read A Slob Comes Clean, especially her "figuring myself out" section. https://www.aslobcomesclean.co.....-out/

Her tips are great and manageable for the non-tidy-by-nature among us.

If you have a spot for everything (an organizer can help with that. some are worth their weight in gold) it's so much easier to keep things neat. Sort mail over a garbage can and have a file folder handy so papers don't even have to hit the counter. If you specify a time for cleaning up it also makes it easier and you don't have to use so much willpower. It becomes pretty automatic. Get kids to clean up after themselves. Good luck.
