It depends a lot on how experienced the tutor is. It starts at 35$/hr for a beginner tutor without degree and can go up 100$+/hr with experience/regents-level/education etc

I charge $100/hour for Regents tutoring in math, and I'm cheap for someone with my credentials. I'm not sure what the rates are for younger children.

The going rate in my community is around $60 an hour for a professional experienced tutor. High school girls or post high school girls that tutor is between $10-$20 an hour.

Tutor for what? kodesh?
Someone recently asked for $40 for a half hour for kodesh because supposedly boys my son's age can't learn for longer periods(!!!) I thought it was outrageous. BH I found someone wonderful k'ah for $35 an hour who is not a money grubbing greed machine and actually the kind of person I want my child to learn with .. and from. The chutzpah to ask for such rates is disgusting but I know it is a vicious cycle of survival in NYC as everything becomes about money, and more money.. and more money....

You can PM me for a number of a great tutor. She has a Masters in Special Ed. Her going rate is between $50-75 an hour, depending on each situation.

It's not money grubbing. It's deciding what is worth your time.

I'm a busy woman. It's not worthwhile for me to tutor at a lower cost. Now, I'd probably charge less for kodesh than Regents tutoring because the stakes are lower.

Also, part of it is supply-and-demand and the market. You set your prices at a level that people will pay.

This may not be for everyone, but as someone whose DS goes to a wonderful school that does a great job educating him in kodesh, but not so much in chol, I decided to get him extra tutoring in writing, which is such an important skill in life.

However, when DH heard how much the various tutors wanted - and how limited their qualifications were - he was shocked. He went and found a website called Wyzant that matches up tutors with students across the US for every age and every subject.

Enter your location, subject, age, and time availability, and it will give you options of local tutors with their prices, credentials, and most importantly ratings from previous students. They also have background checks run confirming that they are who they say they are, and are legal citizens with no criminal records.

DH managed to find a non-frum Jewish woman with an Ivy League master's in English who comes to tutor in our home for $35 an hour (since raised to $40). She's taught him far more than he would get from the other tutors we looked into, and for far less. Obviously this only works because she comes to our home and works with him under our supervision. It's definitely a good option to be aware of.

Experienced morah here with a BA in education and training in kriah. I'm OOT and I charge $35/hr. I've been told I'm undercharging though... the two other frum tutors that I know of here charge $60 and $70/hr.

Yes you are undercharging, you can say to new customers that you charge 50 or even 60 but if its difficult I can do 35 (or 40 ) like this you are not making up higher prices for people who can afford it, your price IS MORE but you can give a discount. My DD without any degree just good teaching skills charged in Williamsburg 50 per hour for girls for kodesh. She did for chesed here and there but had also steady payers.
May Hashem bentch you.
Moms please invest where it's right: tutors extra curricular activity (not too many), MEDICAL INSURANCE.etc

I know someone that was paying for an Avrech 1800 a month to learn with a person with issues. It was 45 dollars per hour

I always find it funny that as a teacher I can get paid double or triple working one on one than teaching a class which is so much more work. But it's supply and demand , also tutoring hours are harder and many times you are going somewhere just for an hour of work so it's also counting transportation time.
