Hi. Im hosting a bbq tonight and I have a bag of purple cabage that I would like to use to make a salad.

Anyone any suggestions to something simple that would go well with a bbq?

I have limited ingredients so the simpler the better

How about a purple cabbage salad with toasted sesame seeds, pine nuts and a sweet dressing... I don't have an exact recipe but I remember tasting something like this and it was delicious!

I make a purple cabbage salad with soy sauce or tamari, toasted sesame oil or olive oil, rice vinegar or balsamic vinegar, and lots of sesame seeds. It's very forgiving.

There's also a really yummy one with cut up colored peppers (optional), craisins, and mayo-dill-garlic dressing.

Delicious salad!!! Cant find what the dressing ingredients are. Maybe someone else knows...

The salad recipe is;

1 macadamia nuts cut half or quarters

The dressing I use for this is very simple: equal parts sugar, vinegar and oil. Splash of soy sauce.

Can also substitute other nuts for the pine nuts eg. pecans.

Just wanted to add to this thread that we had a container of regular cole slaw in the fridge, and also a bag of purple cabbage.

DD decided to stretch the cole slaw by adding the purple cabbage. It was quite beautiful, the purple and white (light green, whatever), and I don't think I ever thought of doing that. (If there's not enough dressing I'd just add a bit of lemon juice & then sweeten to taste.)

(I do often make the Chinese slaw with soy sauce, diagonally cut celery, toasted slivered almonds & sesame seeds.)

So here's another idea for when it suits your needs.

A super-easy hack that I came across:
If you want to make you coleslaw taste like the store bought version, dress it with Italian dressing and mayo. You would never be able to tell the difference!

thanks

Looks very nice, however, beware, the leftovers turn purple.
