I would keep their stuff in one room and put them to sleep wherever they sleep the best! Separate or together depending on where they are the most comfortable.(Do they wake each other up? Are they scared on their own?)
When you have guests, move kid out to the other room.

I have five bedrooms. I have three kids. I put my boys 3 & 8 together to sleep. I think it's nice for them to share even though I have extra rooms. If it gets too much at night once in a while then I separate them. I happen to keep my little ones clothes in another room since I have an extra dresser there. He thinks it's his room it he just sleeps elsewhere.
