Laptop recommendation, about $200-300?

Hi,

I'm looking for a laptop recommendation for my husband. He only needs Internet browsing, some Microsoft Word, and that's about it. He needs to save and upload documents, so a Chromebook won't work.

Preferably in the $200-300 range.

What would you suggest? Thanks.

There is nothing. Ten years ago, I could get a small 10 inch Asus or Acer for that price, and it was a full laptop. I didn't buy Microsoft Office, but I used Open Office, which was free and close enough to Microsoft Office for my needs. It worked well for several years and was well worth the price. Now all you can get in the $200-300 range is a Chromebook.[b]

By the way, from what you write, a Chromebook may suffice. There is a limited amount of memory -- 16G or 32G -- so you can save some documents. It will not suffice for me, since I need to use it for some software development.

Thank you, all! I tried a Chromebook, but it seemed to do everything possible to make saving documents internally extremely DIFFICULT!

I bought him a laptop about 2.5 years ago for $200, and he shleps it around on business trips without a case, so it's time for a new one. I'm surprised I can't find much in this price range.

An ipad wouldn't work. He needs easy access to Word documents, saving them, changing them, emailing them, etc.

I usually buy mine refurbished on ebay for $200'ish. I get really good Dell laptops with windows 10 on them on ebay.

Nothing Lenovo.
They are cheap but trash. From personal experience and from friends and family.
In addition to hearing this straight from a computer seller who just stopped carrying the brand since he said it was too much of a headache.
