Does anyone have contact information for the "bike rebbe"? A friend just told me she saw a sign outside the 18th Ave park, but she didn't take down the phone number.
I would like to take my daughter for bike riding lessons.

Such a shame! Can't he teach girls too at 18th Ave park with the parents there to supervise? Sad

He lives in NJ now and it doesn't look like we'll be there at a mutually convenient time.

There's also a PT who does it in Flatbush but he charges $120 for 30 minutes and I my daughter needs 2 lessons. Surprised

A neighborhood girl taught my daughter easily - I’ll bet if you spread the word among high school girls in your area and offer a minimal payment you will find someone to help.

ladYdl, in the chassidish world boys and girls ride bikes. In the real chassidish world, boys do ride bikes.
It's amusing how women are always looking to bash and mock chassidish.

I dont think she was looking to bash, I do see that as fact in monsey. There are a lot of chassidim in monsey, of course many different types. And im not saying my observation covers all of them, because that would be silly.

But from what I see, chassidish girls (I dont mean 5 year olds) generally do not ride bikes. And there are some "very chassidish" who dont allow boys to ride bikes. When my husband has given young men rides because they were walking on the road, they explained this to him.

(Im talking about visibly chassidish like vizhnitz, satmar etc. If you mean chassidish that send their girls to Bais Yaakov schools but are actually Bobov chassidim for example, I have no clue.)

I grew up in Williamsburg, most kids boys and girls rode bikes.
I live in Monsey and almost all kids boys and girls, even teen girls, ride a bike.
Viznits officially doesn't let, but most Viznits boys ride bikes.

Does the bike now have training wheels?
I would start by taking 1 off and then the other.
And hold the bike to start them off.
Or get a balance bike, those are great.
All my children learnt the above way, same as with rollerblading ( by holding their hands instead of the bike)
Its best to do this in a quiet park though.
And they all started around 5 years old.

There is a simple way to teach, watch some youtube videos.
Also have your daughter walk down a driveway, on her bike, with her feet on the floor (not the pedals). It will help her learn to stabilize the bike.

This is a form of recreation. It has no connection to teaching one to ride a bike.

What does this thread have to do with chassidish? I'm looking for a paid teacher.

I live in Bklyn but it's not all chassidish here so not sure how that got into the discussion.
