Perhaps someone who runs a business can help me here.
Are you supposed to give maaser on the profits of the business? Even if those profits don't come to you as income, rather you reinvest them into the business.
Or do you just maaser what you take as an income like taxes?
I'm thinking the answer is only what you take as income..just wanted to run it by some others.
Thanks

I second AYLOR. You may be able to give maaser with goods and services. I have no idea whether it is the value of the goods and services or the cost that is calculated.

If I sell a photo session for $2000, and the album the client gets costs me $200, and my assistant costs me $60, then I have $1740 left. However, I pay for my web hosting, graphic design services, insurance, props, education, etc, from that 1740. All those things are the cost of running a business, so I do not take maaser from them.

That being said, AYLOR! This is what my rabbi told me. I can’t imagine a rabbi saying you must take maaser from your gross income.
