I want to send wholesome filling snacks to school with my kids. I want suggestions for healthy-ish bought snacks (like pretzels and popcorners.)
And some really easy homemade recipes.
Carrot sticks ideas won't work for my kids, most of their classmates just bring snack bags of potato chips etc. And fruits come back home all smashed.
Oh and it has to be nut free.
Thank you all!

There are none.
Everything is either not healthy, not cool, or super expensive.
Good luck

Popcorn.
Carob/chocolate covered rice cakes aren't super awful.
Compare granola bar nutrition facts to see if you can find something decent.
String cheese.
Freeze yogurt in a tube(do those still exist??)

I agree. I'm not gonna tear myself nor my wallet. I'm trying to find the healthiest junk food out there.

Thanks. I forgot about the choc covered rice cakes. I wonder if my kids will like string cheese. Worth a try.

Mine return the string cheese.
They eat the most interesting snack first. Then they complain that the string cheese didn't stay cold enough so now it is gross, they can't eat it, and it is my fault that they are hungry.
Gotta love children!!
(Full disclosure, this is no longer my problem. Youngest is in HS and it is her responsibility to figure it out herself.)

This. All of it.
Anybody have a granola bar they're allowed to send to a school that doesn't allow "may contain nuts"?

homemade energy bars (nut free)
There are some healthier fruit leathers/no sugar added dried fruit
Apple chips
Chocolate leather- so yummy
You can make your own popcorn and season it any way you like (garlic/herb, chocolate etc)
Roasted chickpeas/those pretzel+chummus packets
Whole wheat muffins with fruit/veg ie carrot/zucchini/blueberry/apple/sweet potato etc
I've made brownies with avocado/sweet potato with no one the wiser
Also I know you said fruit comes home smashed. Just my personal experience, I find that when I take my kids shopping with me and they actually choose their own produce, they're more inclined to eat it. Another thing I find is that when I send 1 healthy and 1 not so healthy, the healthy is more likely to be consumed than if I were to just send healthy on its own. They kind of like to choose when to eat something nutritious and when they just want to nosh.

Put the fruit in those small 8 oz containers. Like a handful of grapes.
Store bought applesauce (or other fruit variety) pouches are fun.
Box of good quality raisins.
If they need a nosh then the natural fruit leather.
I like to send a snack bag, fruit and water bottle. Sometimes they need a pastry or similar in addition.

Sunmaid has sour raisin packets that have no added sugar and actually taste like gushers.

1I bag of rice crispies
1 kilo of silan
2 kilo of tehina
A pinch of salt
Mix all that together, with a mixer if possible. If it's still liquidy , add a little potato flour/corn flour. It should be like a rice crispie dough. Then divide it up into reasonable portions, roll into logs, wrap them individually in parchment paper, and freeze them. Pull one out each morning for your kid's snack, and lock your freezer, or it will be raided in less than a day!

I make very easy oatmeal cookies my kids love. Not super healthy but better than most store bought things... Takes 15 minutes to make.
Recipe:
1 egg
1/2 cup oil (you could use apple sauce instead)
1 cup cane sugar
1 1/2 cup flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup chocolate chips
2 tea spoons baking powder
Form little balls and bake for about 10 minutes

Family first (last weeks) had 2 pages of recipes of exactly what you’re asking.
Ie healthy muffins, homemade fruit leather, chick pea choc chip cookies to name a few that I can remember on top of my head
If you want me to take a couple of screen shots of the magazine let me know.

My son gobbles cheese at home but won't eat it if I send to school.
I send:
Dried fruit snacks
Plain cookies (like animal cookies or similar)
fruit in containers - I have small reusable plastic tubs for these. He likes mango, grapes, whole nectarines.
cherry tomatoes and cut up veggies if your kid will eat them. Maybe with a chummus or guacamole tub. (mine won't eat veggies in school although I still send them sometimes)
whole bananas
Strawberry soya milk. (can't get mini chalav yisrael cartons where I live or it would be real milk. These also don't need refrigeration)
Smoothies
yogurt
applesauce
Sometimes pretzels.
popcorn.

Sometimes it's in the presentation. I sent cut up fruit in a disposable container (Amazon). He said his friends were jealous. That was eighth grade. Now hes away in yeshiva, and I wish I could do this for him.

Lol. If I cut a sandwich in half, it's untouchable. But if it's in quarters, then he inhales it. Go figure!
