Not sure where this will get most responses so I'm trying here...

Has anyone ever shipped frozen food to a family member who needed it? Want to ship frozen solid chicken soup and I'm finding it's surprisingly expensive. Any strategies/tricks of the trade?

It often makes more sense to order ready food for delivery over the phone in the location the family member is.

Are you planning to ship on your own or are you ordering food to be shipped?

I order a lot of food that is frozen and shipped by Fedex. It always arrives still frozen as it is packed with enough dry ice or frozen ice bags so that nothing is thawed on arrival.

Generally shipping is done by weight and between the weight of the food and the weight of the cooling material, the packages are heavy. Commercial companies generally negotiate cheaper rates so that they are able to ship the food relatively cheaply as compared to what you would pay for shipping one item.

I used to order meats and it was always shipped next day and packed in styrofoam coolers with dry ice. The meat itself was also frozen.

I’ve never done it but someone I know has.
Everything is frozen solid in insulated bags and boxes and she does 2 day shipping instead of overnight. She says it cut the cost significantly and everything came frozen.
