My boys school in Lakewood sends a text to both parents within 1-2 hours of yeshiva starting if any of my boys are marked absent.

I don't think any of my kids schools send emails or texts if the child is absent.
They request that the parent send an email by 9 am and I never do. Typically I call the office and apologize for forgetting to either at 3 pm, or 3 days later.
And my children are in big, big schools.

Never dawn on me to expect an email/text. Never worried about it. I (or DH ) always put my kids on the bus or the kids are in carpool.

In Lakewood, it seems the larger/fancier schools have a system where they text or call parents if their kid doesn't show up.

My child's smaller school doesn't do this! The teacher doesn't even notify the office about absent kids. How am I supposed to know my dc got to school safely???

I have never been informed by the school if my kid didn't show up.

I consider it my responsibility to see my child get on the bus, and I never expected the school to be on top of this.

Must be something new in some schools.

What about a primary kid getting off the bus, and getting to the proper room?

The school has teachers waiting for the children when they arrive. The children either line up outdoors (weather permitting) or in the auditorium, and the teachers escort them to their classrooms.

Even my 6th grader has line-up.

if I was concerned I would call and ask their teachers to please notify or have office notify if the kids don't show up
if your child is home sick or not going for whatever the reason don't you have to call into the office to let them know?
is there a way the office correlates the "unexcused absences" and then calls those parents?
its a good idea to do so
