How far apart should my shelves be? I don’t want to make them adjustable.

Consider what you will be storing there. Bins, plastic boxes? You also need one shelf for tall irregular things like I have a ball tracker, Melissa Doug mailbox, etc. That are tall. Or those go on the floor. Basically what are your needs.

I had my contractor measure my larger buckets to make sure the shelves would be the right size for me
