I'd never heard of this, but am raising my kids considerably more yeshivish than I was raised, so I decided to ask my sons, who attend a regular ashkenazi yeshiva with some chassidish rebbeim, if they'd ever been told this.

My older son said that his rebbe taught them that that's the way loafers in the street hang around, hands in their pockets, and told them that when he was in yeshiva the joke was:

Why did eisav need yaakov to poor the lentil soup down his throat?

Because his hands were in his pocket.

I thought this was hilarious beyond belief.

Pretty sure having hand in ones pockets refers to something else. I know of people that sew their husbands pants pockets closed.

I'm aware, but I didn't want to go there in this thread. That's why I made a spin off. Wanted to keep it light instead of another discussion about hands in pockets.
