Has anyone made gefilte fish and then frozen it and defrosted it for shabbos?
How did it taste?

I have tried it and straight from the freezer it's usually soggy.
I leave it out to defrost and once fully defrosted I put it in the oven on 350 for a half hour, uncovered. That helps dry it out and it usually tastes fine.

I freeze cooked gefilta fish all the time.
Do not defrost it. Cook it frozen in water & spices for about 1/2 hour. Tastes as good as fresh.

When I made this recipe and froze 1/2 the loaf you couldnt tell a difference. I didnt even bake it again, just defrosted in fridge.

Thank you!
It's a baked gefilte fish, so I can just defrost in fridge and if watery I'll stick it in the oven a bit

I agree it’s always soggy when defrosted. My family can always tell.

mine doesn't normally go soggy-I think it depends how much fish is actually in the gefilte fish-the logs I buy have a higher percentage of matza-meal which seems to keep it from going soggy.
