According to Wikipedia- as a political term of African American origin refers to a perceived awareness of issues concerning social justice and racial justice.[1] It is derived from the African-American Vernacular English expression "stay woke", whose grammatical aspect refers to a continuing awareness of these issues.

Do you consider yourself woke? It's under politics because it is a political term.

Hmmm interesting question.
I think the idea of being "woke" (ie. aware of what is going on) is good
Referring to yourself as woke is sort of insufferable
I'm trying to be more "woke" but it's a concept that can of course be taken too far
Curious to see what other people respond
Yo'ma do you?

I do in the way that I see where things are bad, but not in a societal term. People tend to find issues when there aren't any, in a general way, not specific. Like Ben Shapiro says, if you see someone doing what they shouldn't be, tell me and we can fight it together.

The more I listen to what is going on in the country, the more I am aware of (awakened to?) the mind boggling idiocy and extremism of the leftist Democrats and Millenials on economic and social policies.

Does that count as "woke?"

Yah, I thought not...

What bothers you in the sense of a "societal term" ? I mean, technically it originated as a term that people of colour used within their community, so if you're not not part of that community, it's really not meant for you, no need to feel obligated to apply it to yourself

Is Ben Shapiro volunteering to fight wrongs that bother people he disagrees with or only wrongs that bother him? Rolling Eyes

No.

Sounds like a pretentious way to presume people who dont agree with you are "sleeping", and there couldn't possibly be a valid reason why someone would disagree with whatever the "woke" rhetoric is.

As long as woke isn't the exclusive domain of one way of thinking, I have no issue with the word.
Now am I woke? Hey, look in the dictionary and you'll see my picture Cool

I'm woke to how Democrat-Socialists brainwash 40% of the population with their
control of schools, colleges, news and entertainment.

I'm woke to the dangers of Socialism. I pray my fellow Americans wake up in time as America is heading off a cliff.

I'm sorry BestBubby. You can't be woke to the dangers of socialism. That's like serving your pork shoulder with chrain and lokshen kugel on the side.
As for me I am not woke. I'm farshluffen.

If you don't know what the term woke means than you're definitely not woke.

I'm so curious if you are as concerned about Israel, which is a socialist government-and has been for decades- , and none of the catastrophic dangers you predict have yet occurred. Or any of the many European countries or Canada that enjoy socialist governments and the quality of life that this provides. Is only the US in terrible danger of all of the horrible things you predict? Or are you equally worried about Israel? And why is the US so different than the other stable, well run countries which take care of it's sick, it's hungry and it's poor?

The danger of socialism is that it concentrates too much power in the hands of government that historically has been evil and bad for the people.

I believe socialism is safer in Israel as I believe even secular jews are more compassionate and less likely to use their power for evil. I don't believe secular jews would ever mass-murder millions of their citizens like has happened in soviet union, communist china, cambodia, vietnam, cuba, etc.

Also in Israel, most men have military training and own guns. I think that keeps government tyranny in check.
