Is there a different version of the name Tehilla? Maybe even Yiddish? I love the name for its meaning, but it's the name of a former friend so I would feel funny using it, and besides it doesn't really "go" in my community.

תהל is popular among babies and toddlers right now in Israel.
Tahel.

Though if you're in an English speaking community, then I wouldn't recommend using it, for obvious reasons.

Can you elaborate on what the issue is with Tehillah in your community? It will help direct people's suggestions.

Hodaya

The only thing that comes to mind in Yiddish is an imamother called Dankbar .
Not sure how that would go in your community.
Or any community.
But it’s a great name Dankbar (in case you’re reading this).

OP here. I'm chassidish. People here are named either common names from Tanach (Suri, Esty, Miriam, Ruchel) or else Yiddish (Raizy, Tziry). There's also Chaya, Malky, names like that but I have never heard Tehilla.

I was about to post that you should name the name you like anyway and not care what goes in your community but then I remembered how badly I wanted to name my daughter an Israeli name but in the end I didnt because we are jpf in brooklyn and the pronounciation would never be correct. I understand that your community norms do make a difference when naming a baby.
How about naming a common name but after people who are known for their prayers such as Chana, the mother of shmuel. Or Rachel imeinu. You can have fun with nicknames for Rachel like raCHEL or Rachelli, Racheilli.

Bracha Tehilla is a phrase, Bracha is surely acceptable. We used Tehilla, though more modern than people would expect of us, as we really wanted that name and it was appropriate for our situation.

Yes but can't use Bracha, otherwise I totally would for the meaning. I think I might just go with Yehudis if I can convince DH but he doesn't like it. Any other alternatives? For a post IVF baby.

Would be on my short list, except for the nickname because I don't live in a sheltered enough community.
