I am not an experienced cook or baker, but I like adding fun flavorings to food. Some flavorings, such as grapefruit, are unavailable or hard to find in any form other than food grade essential oil. Can I dilute it with pure alcohol or regular oil to the strength of an extract, for safety reasons and to make it easier to use? If so, how much essential oil would be the right amount per ounce of carrier?
(Amother because people who know me IRL can tell it's me.)

For something like citrus I would use fresh zest.

I like bottled flavorings because they are convenient and don't add texture.
