My daughter recently had a broken engagement.
We are bh thankful that it ended because this boy was not emotionally ready to commit and had emotionally disconnected and detached. While they were dating this way not the case and only started happening once he was around his family.
Throughout dating and the engagement his Rebbe was amazingly supportive and spent 20+ hours talking to my daughter.
His Rebbe gave my daughter constant guidance, answered every phone call, heard her out, offered support, and ultimately guided her in making this huge decision.
Although he was his Rebbe, based on certain circumstance that changed during the engagement, he really made time to help out our family. He was such a mensch through everything. We would like to thank him and buy a gift.
What would be an appropriate gesture?

Do you have any links?

Send him a nice card with a check. Every rov can use the money and most gifts would not be as useful.

Thank you for the suggestion. I would be comfortable doing that if it was for chanuka or mishloach manos but not as a thank you present.

Cheque, Attached to a sefer that recently came out. (Even not expensive, just something to “hold” the cheque) With a nice note/ letter.

If you know someone in his community who can arrange - we got someone a maxi mehudar esrog, around $250 (depends on place). Presumably if he must choose his own he has a choshuva eidem he can gift it to..

If you want to spend less, a challah cover with ushpizin on it

I really like the idea of the sefer and a check.
Which sefer would you suggest?

What about a birkas habayis palque?

Giving a gift is about the receiver, not the giver. I understand it makes you feel better to give an actual gift, but most people prefer cash.
I liked the poster's suggestion of a check with a Sefer.
Another option is something silver.

I wouldn't do the esrog, because it has potential to be a big waste (if he prefers to pick out, and has no sons or sons in law who'd appreciate it...)

OP, I know this wasn't the point of your thread, but I just want to acknowledge the huge disappointment your daughter & family just went through, as necessary as it was. May Hashem send her the right zivug swiftly and smoothly!

Rethink that. You can’t go wrong with a check.
