We bh moved this week. In our old house we had a gas oven/stove top so we used a blech for every shabbos. Now we have electric. Can we still use it or its dangerous and need to get a hot plate?

You can not put a blech on electric stove top! It will melt the stove top. Why not just put the oven in shabbos mode?

Absolutely not. It’s a real danger and a fire hazard. You need a hot plate.

You can leave on 1 burner and put an upside down heavy duty cookie sheet upside down over it. It is leaving a full-size blech on that can crack it. A single cookie sheet is no worse than a pot.

You can't leave the electric burner on for 48 hours.
Do you have access to be able to buy a plug in plata electric plate to keep on the counter, on a timer that goes on and off for each meal.

I have never had a gas stovetop.
I have left on an electric stovetop over many Shabbosim and most Yomim Tovim for nearly 15 years, up to 72 hours.
Some things to keep in mind:
You NEVER need it on high. Even to boil water or big pots of soup. Medium is plenty.
Remove the knobs, I have had pots bang into them and change the temperature way too many times...

I don't have knobs. I have a new one. Glass cooktop. Touch screen.
