My husband can't sleep when he smells food cooking in the house, which means putting food in the slow cooker for Shabbat lunch (or dinner) does not work. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any cookers that keep the food AND THE SMELL inside that can be pre-programmed?
Specifically, I like making lima bean soup, in case that makes any difference.
Thanks!

No. So don’t serve anything that gets cooked in crockpot. Make food that you can put in blech in the morning. Or food that’s good room temp

Can you put the crockpot up in the garage or at a neighbor? I know people who do that when the wife is pregnant and can't stand the smell of cholent.

There's no way to avoid food smelling while cooking.
Does he smell it even when the door is closed?

Yes. The smell permeates even when the crockpot is in the guest room (empty) at the other end of the house and both bedroom doors are closed.

Good idea. I have never had a blech. I will think about getting one.

Do you have a garage you can set up a crockpot in?

I have the same problem. It’s not just the smell, cooking food also creates a sort of humidity that really bothers me when I’m trying to sleep. I haven’t figured out a way around it. So I prefer cold or reheated meals. But mostly I keep the crockpot in the basement. In cooler weather I leave a window open where the crockpot is.

I use a rice cooker instead of a slow cooker and interestingly, the smell doesn’t permeate. We have to open the lid to smell the food.

In the end though, you do you... You have to eat. Some people SMOKE now that's most, most harmful and it's also allowed at home
