Our freezer is just over a year old--very simple regular fridge/freezer combo. It's our only one so around yom tov time it tends to get very full. We've been noticing very recently that when our freezer gets very full, it starts icing up and then the fridge doesn't get so cold. Is this normal? Should we call the manufacturer? store we bought it? Or is this just normal when it gets full?

When it's full, is it closing properly? On all sides?
Is there very heavy things on the door that is weighing it down and making a gap in the seal?
If it doesn't close all the way, it definitely ices up much faster.

Also, there are vents where the air needs to circulate. Are you packing it so tightly that the air can't get around? My mother has a freezer that the top shelf can't be packed to the top because then it traps the air and the freezer doesn't work right.

You need to make sure it's closed all the way, sealed well, and that nothing is blocking the vents.
These freezers don't work well if they're overstuffed.
