Google laundry drying Racks or check out your local hardware/ houseware store. There are countless styles of folding racks out there. You can drape a long robe to dry over a bar on the rack and don’t need to hang it full length on a hanger. Shirts ditto, though I prefer to hang cut-and-sewn shirts on plastic hangers because then they go straight into the closet. T shirts, and anything else that I fold anyway, get draped over the bars. I don’t own a dryer.

I used to hang big things like linen over doors and then I saw the paint wearing off on top.

You should never hang damp things directly on wood , metal or painted surfaces, but you know that now. Stainless steel is fine to get wet, as are plastic, ceramic, and glass.
