Dd just told me they are going to start pulling her out for reading
She did well on the few spelling test she had
. But her sentences are full of spelling errors
Her reading seems ok to me but she is a slower reader she also gets stuck when coming across new word she never read. It takes her 3-4 tries to read it correctly.
My understanding is shes going g out for spelling and reading
She hates going out but I cant afford to pay somone after school privately.
She only enjoys reading very shirt books like 2 words per page
Is there any type of reading activity or specific books we can practice to increase her reading a d speed. I find some books to be to easy but books that have many words she doesnt know makes her frustrated
She enjoys activities workbooks so I was thinking som type workbook would be good or some type book that I know actually is helping he improve will also work. Thank you

Hi. I am a SEIT, a lot of success teaching dyslexics.

To improve reading, you should read to her a book that is slightly above her independent level. Pick a book she will enjoy. Read S L O W L Y moving your finger under the words while DD looks on. Or you can have DD look in her own copy of the book, keeping her finger in place.

Get DD books on HER level - even if it's only 2 words per page. The more you read the better you get. You want DD to enjoy reading. Gradually, DD should be able to read harder books.

Also, sounds like your DD is weak in phonics. Below are the most common word families. See if your daughter can read them and name a word or few in the family.
Ex: for ack, yr DD should be able to name back and/or black, pack, snack.
Work on each reading the word families fluently.

Another common problem are children who can read one syllable words, but have difficulty reading multi-syllabic words. Ask the tutor to see if this is the problem and to teach DD how to break down multi-syllabic words into smaller "chunks" to decode.

Are you willing to hire a tutor? That would be ideal. My daughter did Orton-Gillingham program and it totally changed her reading and she's top of her class now. There are on line programs that help - but I think that's more for reading comprehension. Any phonics workbook you can find would certainly be helpful too.
