I like to put it up on low at 12pm and keep that way for 24 hours.
Dh prefers to cook it on high for 4 hours first and then turn down to low.

I put it on high for 2/3 hours then turn it to low.
DON'T leave it on high all Thursday night, it'll get burnt.

I put it on low right before Shabbos with a piece of raw meat. I guess I don't like such well-cooked cholent!

Make sure you leave enough time for the meat to be at least minimally cooked before candle lighting.

Either the meat has to be 2/3 cooked, or else it has to be totally raw. At least that's how I learned the halacha.

So chulent came out great but the ceramic insert is impossible to clean. How do you get the burnt chulent off?

Soak it and when softened, pull off pieces with the butter knives that come with the cutlery set.
Use a Reynolds slow cooker liner next time, or a sheet of parchment paper if you like that better.

If it has enough liquid it won't burn next time. But hard washing (ceramic is also heavy) is why I don't use my croc pot very often.
People recommended the bag but it doesn't cook the same.

I scrape the pot right after serving when the chulent is still hot. It doesn't stick so bad if you don't let it sit.

I spray the cholent pot ceramic insert with Pam, as suggested a few posts ago. Also, after serving, put the cover back on — you want to keep the crust on the side from drying out.
