My 5 year old delicious daughter lately has a terrible sweat smell under her arms which spreads to her clothing. Is this a symptom of something more serious?
Her pediatrician told me(a while ago- before this issue) not to give her too many baths, as she has dry skin. Could that be the issue? I've been bathing her every other night.
Is this something to discuss with the Dr.?
Tia!

Can happen from a heavily processed, high sugar diet.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. She isn't due for a well visit for a while & is BH feeling well. Should I call the Dr? It seems pretty silly to make an appointment for this...

Sweating under the arms in a five yr Old is not normal. If she were 9 it would be normal. So therefore it’s not a silly thing to check out.

Run it by the doctor. According to my pediatrician it could go either way - sometimes kids just develop this randomly, but first you need to rule out endocrine irregularities.

My daughter had this. Ped told us it was normal and to use deodorant.

Same here. And it usually is okay. With my dc (probably started a bit older- maybe 6-7) we eventually discovered that it was the first symptom of very mild/atypical congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
Like most posters responded, it's probably fine. And you should speak with your ped.

Btdt.
Pediatrician sent us to pediatric endocrinologist.
Ran a lot of blood work including the adrenal hyperplasia.
Bh, all negative
Have been told that tests are run at birth for the adrenal issue, and if she was Bh normal at birth, this too should come back normal.
Could be early puberty as well, can see by doing bone age x ray.
Also, is your child overweight?
That can be the cause
We use a gentle deodorant, as kids can be cruel....don't want them to tell her she smells.

We had this at 7 with our youngest DD.
Ped said it was normal and to use deodorant.
She is now 18 and still sweats alot.
It's just how she is.
