Tell the family how sad you are to hear of his passing and maybe share a story or two explaining why he was your favorite teacher

If he has a wife and kids:

Dearest Mrs Teacher and family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Mr Teacher was my favorite teacher. He will sorely be missed.
With sincerest condolences,
Your Name

Rabbi Turin was a great man, so insightful. Sharing a story is a good idea.

1. Sorry to learn of petirah of ___________
2. Your relationship: he was my math teacher, we were coworkers, my dh was his accountant
3. Share a story about the deceased: made class enjoyable even though till then I hated math, brought cookies to office on rosh chodesh, always stopped to play with our kids when he picked up his tax returns.
4. He will be sorely missed.
5. Hamakom yenachem.
