My 4th grade son has an hour commute to and from school each day. The school doesn't allow him to bring an ipod or music player. Any ideas of what he can do on the bus to make the ride easier?

I find that madlibs easily devolves into silly bordering inappropriate with boys this age.

Homework! Is that too obvious? Learning, anything school related is perfect

Would the school let him bring an electronic pocket chess game?

The average 9-10 year old is not sufficiently motivated to do homework on his own after 7 hours of school.
OP, I like wordsearches, crossword puzzles. If he has someone to play with then a deck of cards, top Trump's, oiber chacham cards.
A logic puzzle game.
Books.

Can he keep an mp3 in backpack and not take it out at school? Just for bus use?

exactly
anyway, its kind of hard to do any sort of written homework in a moving vehicle
and its always best to do homework with an adult around who is available to help as needed

I guess every kid is different. I commuted one hour each way by bus from grades 1-12 and aside from chatting with each other, I definitely did school work. Much better than getting home late (which you do with an hour travel) and then having to START doing it. I hope you find something for him to do!

I think it’s terrible for a kid so young to have to spend 2 hours traveling.

I'm sure the OP isn't doing that for her son because it's fun. Maybe she is one of those amazing Chabad Shluchim who live far from a Jewish school. Maybe he needs to be in a school that can properly give him services for an IEP. Whatever her reason is, is legitimate.
Let's stick to giving her recommendations like she asked.
Thanks ❤

I bought my son a book light on amazon. It clips to the page and he reads or learns.

All of these suggestions would make my child very nauseous. He vomits sometimes and playing a game or reading would just make the nausea worse.
Is it private transportation that would put on music?
