I think you mean abstinence. (Although some people truly are a-zexual.)
Ask any parent of a toddler, and you'll see that obstinance is all too human!

What she means is celibacy, iow zero s@xual activity. Lots of people practice abstinence including Orthodox Jews who observe TH, athletes during training (supposedly), Catholics and others using “natural family planning”, couples in fighting mode, and people who just want to take a break now and then.
Celibacy isn’t the cause. If it were, these kinds of acts would be limited to the priesthood. Priests, politicians, bosses, boyfriends...it’s what OP said about power and privilege.
