Matilda was my favorite movie of all time and I desperately wished there was a Miss Honey to adopt me as well I'm sure there were other movies that I saw but cant remember titles now. |
Chassidish people don't have a monopoly on what is considered clean and tasteful!
We are DL and my kids watch (selected) films here and there.
I had never seen Mrs. Doubtfire when I was a kid, but I thought it was a good family-friendly film. We watched it and all the kids thought it was inappropriate.
I also thought the hero was unsympathetic and annoying, but that's another story.

Can I ask everyone a silly question
I always see Sound of Music being suggested as a clean movie for frum families
But how to you explain the nuns to kids?
I would love to watch it with my kids but wondering if it is appropriate
Also Madeline with the nuns.... please don't throw tomatoes

I just rewatched sound of music last night (as someone mentioned-free on abc.com) because I was considering letting my girls watch it. It has an awful lot of romance in it. Yes, it’s ‘tznius’ (although there is a ton of kol isha, if that’s an issue), but I would not consider it appropriate for ‘sheltered’ kids at all.

Yeah
I haven't yet show my kids The Sound Of Music
Not that I think it's a bad movie. Not at all. Actually I love the movie. One of my favorites.
It's just that the romance angle isn't my favorite angle for family movies. So, yeah, I understand your point.
I did show my kids The Newsies. Just stop the movie two minutes before the end, if you don't want them to see the final scene where they kiss.
