I send around 40 now. One major thing I learned from my parents is to give everyone I have contact with. My parents give everyone they know locally, the grocer, shoemaker, etc. included. I grew up with my siblings, us being the ones to deliver most of them, walking locally, in the few blocks around my parents house (they live in flatbush). It was such a lesson in Hakaras Hatov to all of us, and we all took on that tradition, I also give every babysitter of mine, etc.
