Title says it all. I really want to make potato kugel but I don't have any onions in the house. Will it work without onions or will it be way too bland?

I never put onions in mine. Potato kugel is very versatile. As long as you have the right amount of salt it'll be good.

Personally, I can’t imagine potato kugel without the onion flavor.
I’ve seen onion powder being substituted for onions, if you have any.

It will never taste the same without onions, it’s just bland and pretty tasteless without it.

Cheiny, you're the only one that says it's bland and tasteless without onion.
I know plenty of people that don't put in onion, it's really a matter of taste. If you put the right amount of salt and oil, it's delicious.

I personally like it with the onion but its possible to make it without onion. It will taste different but just make sure you have enough oil and salt!
