The inner handle of my driver's side door is broken. The mechanic ordered the part, but it hasn't come in yet. In the meantime, I've been opening the window and using the outer door handle to open the door.
My inspection is due on the 31st. (The mechanic I use no longer does inspections.) Do you think a different place would do the inspection for me even with the door handle broken? It doesn't have anything to do with the running of the car, obviously.

The car sounds unsafe because the inner door handle is broken? Are you kidding me?
As I said, the inspection is due on the 31st. It's not expired yet. My question is if I can go get it inspected now, or if I have to wait until after the door handle is replaced.

They don't always check, but they CAN technically fail your inspection for that. If you're willing to take a chance, you can get inspected now. Otherwise better to wait until it is fixed.

But what happens if the part doesn't come in before the 31st? I heavily rely on my car.

I personally would take the chance and get it inspected. You can get a free re-inspection within 2-3 weeks (check the exact days).

The thing is, it's so obvious that it's broken because you can't get out of the car.

call the mechanic and ask him. Even if the car won't pass inspection, you can have him so the rest of the inspection and when the new handle comes in, have it replaced and then he can give you the new sticker.
I'm not advocating driving wihout the inspection, but I know people have driven for years without the right inspection sticker. A couple weeks will not be the end of the world either. Mine was expired for a couple weeks until I was able to find a new mechanic to inspect my car. (My regular mechanic died a few days before I called to make an appt)
