Would you freeze challah you baked Thursday night to serve on shabbos day? Or would you wrap it really well and keep it out?

So that’s what my friend told me to do but I didn’t listen and it tasted great! For me I feel like you lose out somewhat on the freshly baked taste when you have to freeze and defrost. Was curious which “side” other people were on.

Depends on how much space I have in the freezer.

I would freeze and then warm up for 10 min so it gets crusty. I consider it more fresh then a day old bread. And by shabbos day it will be 2 days.

I find the challos taste freshest the closer you removed it from the freezer. For example if I baked Thursday night I’ll freeze, remove from freezer Friday afternoon (no need to rewarm) , and the challos for Shabbos lunch I take out Shabbos morning. That’s when it tastes freshly baked. If it sits in a bag overnight it loses its freshness.
I have a feeling that this all has to do with what your recipe is. That’s why The preferences vary so much.

I find that’s how they are freshest. Freezing keeps them fresh, but sitting in a bag out overnight they will loose freshness. They are too precious to allow them to dry out!! I take them out shab morning and they defrost in time for lunch.

I do too (when I get around to making them, that is).

I find they don't taste as fresh when kept out overnight. If put in freezer right away and wrapped up very well, they taste completely fresh when defrosted.

Though as Thunderstorm said, maybe it depends on the recipe.

I always freeze. I find that my challas become somewhat stale if left out overnight. I totally agree with the posters who suggested that this is probably due to the recipe.
